As we grow older, many of us tend to lose the amazing traits we possessed as kids. Without those key traits, life becomes all the more difficult.
Remember being fearless to try new things as a child? Everything was new to us, so we never stopped to worry what others may think. We all learned so much on our own as children, simply by being open to new experiences. Or how about our willingness to test the limits of our mind and body? We've all tried to see how far we can throw a ball, or how many times we could jump rope with stopping or messing up. As adults, suddenly many are afraid to try new things or test their boundaries.
Who can remember being able to forget as well as forgive? We've all been on receiving end of a joke or other hurtful action that wasn't well-received. What did you do in these situations as a child? Often times, you simply forgot about it and moved on as if it never happened. But when we get older, suddenly we can't fathom the thought of letting things go. Someone wrongs us in any way, and suddenly it's the end of the world. Why isn't laughing it off an option anymore? When I find myself among all-too-serious people who don't seem to be enjoying themselves, I sometimes want to scream out a line from a classic Led Zeppelin song, "Does anybody remember laughter?", or "Is it recess yet?"
Life will cut you deep if you let it, no question about it. What many people fail to realize is that the fixes to most of our problems are right in front of us. All we need to do is think back to the three "F's" I described above. Become fearless toward new things, forget about the negativity in life, and perhaps most importantly, forgive others' mistakes (and your own, as well). When you embrace these three traits, I guarantee you'll feel a load lifted off your shoulders.
In order to achieve our goals, we need to keep a positive perspective on almost everything in our lives. Who says you can't be all things? A great person, investor, entrepreneur, grandfather (or grandmother), etc. We have far more control over our lives than most people realize. All we have to do is remember how we lived as children: fearless, and willing to forgive and forget.
